Vision

Feelings change. Reality does not

Up until now, we have talked about mindset.
We talked about honesty.
We talked about competition.
We talked about the games that actually matter.
Now it is time to do something practical.

Before you can improve your life, you need to know where you currently stand. That sounds obvious, but most people never actually do it.
Ask someone how healthy they are – they will give you a feeling.
Ask someone how good their finances are – they will give you a feeling.
Ask someone how satisfied they are with their social life…. Again, a feeling.

The problem is that feelings change. Reality does not.

Where Are You Right Now?

Before deciding where you want to go, you need to know where you are.
This is why we create a Vision.
Not because planning is exciting.
Not because goals are trendy.
But because it is impossible to navigate without a map.

Imagine getting into your car and saying:
“I want to drive somewhere better.”

Better than where? In which direction? How far? How would you even know if you arrived?
That is exactly how many people approach life. They want things to improve.
But they never define what improvement actually means.

The Current State

The first step is brutally simple.
Look at each dimension of your life and describe it as honestly as you can.

You can use the Vision template I prepared for you, or create your own version. The format is not important. Clarity is.

Health.
Education.
Career.
Social Life.
Financial Control.
Free Time.

Where are you today?
Not where you think you should be. Not where you pretend to be.
Where are you actually?
The goal is not to impress anyone. The goal is accuracy, because an ugly truth is infinitely more useful than a beautiful lie.

When mapping your current state, keep two things in mind:
1. Be honest with yourself. Lying to yourself will not make things better.
2. Make it measurable. Otherwise, you are still drifting in the world of feelings. What gets measured can get improved.

Direction Matters More Than Speed

Once you know where you are, you can start thinking about where you want to go.

Most people immediately jump into goals…
Lose weight.
Make more money.
Find a partner.
Start a business.
… but before goals comes direction.

What does a good life actually look like to you?
What are you trying to build?
What kind of person are you trying to become?
Without answers to those questions, goals become random.

Random goals rarely survive difficult days.

Building Your Vision

This is where the Vision document comes in. Its purpose is simple: to create clarity.
To take ideas that exist only in your head and turn them into something visible.

Something you can review.
Something you can measure.
Something you can improve.
Because once you can see your life clearly, making decisions becomes much easier.

You no longer ask:
“What should I do?”
You ask:
“Does this move me closer to the life I am trying to build?”
That is a completely different question.

Action Step

Get a copy of the Vision template and fill in the Current State section for each dimension.
Or create your own version if you prefer.
Whatever works for you.

Do not optimize it.
Do not judge it.
Do not try to make it look good.
Just tell the truth.

The quality of every future decision depends on the accuracy of this first step.
